Start building new distribution centre for Damen Shipyard in Schelluinen

April 24 2024

The warehouse to be built by BMN De Klerk at Griendweg 64 will have approximately 14,500 m2 of storage space and is expected to be put into use in February 2025. The building will be owned by Deltabrug Beheer from Hardinxveld-Giessendam, with which Damen has signed a long-term lease agreement. Construction company BMN De Klerk is also from Hardinxveld Giessendam and the building was designed by Van Es Architects from Sliedrecht.

It goes without saying that the new building will be designed to be as energy-efficient as possible, according to Damen's press release. For example, the building is completely gas-free, has an A++++ energy label, there are solar panels on the roof and the lighting works with motion sensors. All in all, this results in the building being awarded a BREEAM certificate for sustainable construction, stating 'very good'.

Gorinchem

The new 'DC' will replace the outdated building that Damen uses for this purpose on the Avelingen-Oost industrial estate in Gorinchem. In addition to the storage space, the new building has 800 m2 of associated office space,

There is also about 2700 m2 of outdoor space so that more loading docks for trucks can be built. In any case, Martijn van Tilborg, logistics manager at Damen Shipyards, expects that the new warehouse will give a significant boost to working more efficiently thanks to a sophisticated design and a height of 11 metres. Not only for ourselves, we have about a thousand suppliers who use this logistics centre every year and we deliver to five hundred destinations.

Griendweg

From February next year, the 48 employees of the Transport, Inventory Management and Warehouse departments of Damen Shipyards will move into the new building at Griendweg 64 on the Schelluinen-West business park, near Gorinchem.

The building will be owned by Deltabrug beheer from Hardinxveld-Giessendam, with which Damen has signed a long-term lease agreement. Construction company BMN de Klerk is also from Hardinxveld-Giessendam and the building was designed by Van Est Architects from Sliedrecht.

Deltabrug was assisted in the project by De Lobel & Partners real estate experts and BRiQ real estate advised Damen Shipyards throughout the entire housing process.
